What type of gate should be used for underground garages?
For underground garages, the best choice is a high-speed automatic gate, most often with an angled arm (90° or 180°), which accommodates low ceiling heights and requires minimal space to open.
Underground parking garages are expected to have high traffic volume; therefore, the barrier drive must be designed for continuous operation at 100% capacity.
For the same reason, the barrier’s lifting speed is important to prevent traffic jams from forming in front of the entrance; when exiting underground garages, it is necessary to choose fast barriers with a lifting time of between 1 and 2.5 seconds.
For underground garages, it is also important to provide a backup power supply in case of a power outage; therefore, it is advisable for the barriers to have a built-in backup battery to automatically open the garage exit. Of course, the barrier must also be capable of being opened manually.
Automatic barriers should never be operated without safety features such as safety photocells, inductive loops embedded in the roadway, and a rubber protective strip on the underside of the barrier arm. We also offer a wide range of other safety features based on laser, microwave, and radar technology.
The top-of-the-line AGF3 and AGM1F models from AUTOGARD’s lineup can handle thousands of cycles per day, allow connection to a backup power source, are compatible with all the listed safety features, and can be integrated into any access control or parking system. They are the ideal choice for underground garages.
